I was surpriced to find a Austrian Whisky not long ago. Now I have found out that there is more than 13 distilleries and Austria has AWA
Selected Cask from Aichinger Distillery is cask strength at 51 % abv and Non Chill Filtered. I don´t think it has added colour because it has matured ind Hungarian oak casks and finished in Austrian Red wine casks🍷
It is stated on the bottle that it is a blended whisky, and of what I can find, it is a wheat and malted barley whisky – a grain whisky that is vatted/blended from different casks.
It is a very vinous whisky in both nose and taste with fruit sweetness , spices, vanilla. One of the fun parts of this whisky is that it has notes of port wine and some sherry but I don´t think it has been near those types for casks and has a volume of a malt whisky.
Selected Cask is a pleasant whisky, round in the taste even at 51%
In my research I found that Aichinger Distillery not is part of AWA which is Austrian Whisky Association. Maybe this is because it mostly is a winery that also produce fruit spirits and small amounts of whisky. This I will try to digg into later.
🤔 An interresting whisky 🥃
