Marsala Edition in the Puni Distilleries Vina Series is a good representative for what Sicilian wine casks can do for a whisky.
The Vina Serie is their exclusive range of whisky matured in handselected wine casks and the Marsala is the first to be released.

I am starting to expect quite a bit from Puni, taken from the two I have tasted but they make a good solid whisky that is a refreshment to the whisky marked.

When I opened the bottle, school glue, talcum powder and sweet sherry were the first scents to hit the nose. Then came fresh walnut kernels, some raisins and some alcohol. When the alcohol wears off, a little dry licorice root and plum appear.
This was a fun start and I lowered the expectations but I was lifted up again with softness, sweetness and fruit notes

A pleasant whisky that makes me more curious on what Puni Distillery can do.

I got my self a bottle of GOLD from Puni while I wait for the borders to open.

Sipping the Gold whisky confirms that I have to visit one day, it is a very pleasant whisky. Soft, sweet and still with a kick. A nice summer whisky or aperitif.

Maybe it is a little classic for a ex-bourbon matured but it has a fine Italian touch
